Professional Qualifications
- Degree with full marks in Medicine and Surgery, with an experimental dissertation in Respiratory Physiopathology, University of Bari, 1986.
- Qualification for the exercise of the medical profession, University of Bari, 1986.
- Specialization in Allergology and Clinic Immunology with full marks, with an experimental dissertation on “Atopic Dermatitis”, University of Bari, 1990.
- Further Specialization in Paediatric Immunology and Allergology, University of Bari, 1991.
Mauro Minelli is Director of the IMID Centre, Operative Unit for Immune-Mediated and Environment-Related Diseases, Regional Reference Centre for Depleted Uranium and Heavy Metal Diseases, for Multiple Environmental Hyperreactivity Pathologies with specific reference to MCS, at the Hospital “San Pio di Petralcina”, Campi Salentina, Italy (Local Health Authority ASL-LE).
He is Professor-in-charge at the University of Salento, Lecce, where he teaches Occupational Medicine for the students of various courses of the Faculty of Sciences of Education.
Within the courses of the same Faculty, during the academic year 2009/10, he was in charge of a series of integrative lectures on the theme “Chronic inflammatory pathologies: connections of cause and effect between polluting agents and diseases”, within the teaching of General and Applied Hygiene.
As a Professor-in-charge at the Telematic University “Pegaso”, he teaches “Environment and Nutrition Hygiene” within the course of studies in Sciences of Education, Faculty of Human Sciences.
He is external member of the Scientific Board of the Research Doctorate in Psychological Sciences, School of Doctorate in Cognitive Sciences, Department of Pedagogical and Psychological Sciences, University of Messina.
Since 22 February 2011, he is Professor-in-charge of Occupational Medicine for the course of studies in “Professional Educator and Techniques in Medical Radiology”, Faculty of Medicine, University of L’Aquila.
In the academic year 2010/2011, he taught Clinical Microbiology at the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine, University of L’Aquila.
He is member of the Organizing Committee of the 1st level Master in “Healthcare Management and Clinical Governance of Chronic Inflammatory Diseases (IMIDs)”, implemented in 2011 by the University of L’Aquila, at the suggestion of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the same University and the GIMICRON Association.
Among other qualifications:
- Certificate of attendance to the Master, “Contemporary management of patients with respiratory diseases”, June 1997, at Mcmaster University – Department of Medicine Hamilton, Ontario, Canada;
- Certificate of attendance to the Master “Globalisation and health services”, issued at the end of the academic year 2003-2004, by the Research Centre for Institution Building and Development – University of Urbino, with lectures of advanced education in the area of organization and management of health-care services;
- Certificate of attendance to the “Master on Allergic Asthma”, held at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, in April 2010.
He has been a member of a number of scientific Societies and, in particular, he has been member-elect in the National Executive of the Italian Association of Aerobiology (AIA), of which he has also chaired the Interregional Section “Apulia-Lucania”. He has been a member of the promoting Committee of the Association of Territorial and Hospital Immunologists and Allergologists (AAITO). He is a founding member of AISAI (Italian Association of Allergologists and Immunologists) of which he was National Vice-President from October 2008 to February 2011. He is a member of SIAIC (Italian Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology).
In November 2010 he was appointed Consultant for the Parliamentary Court of Inquiry on individuals exposed to possible pathogenic action of environmental interference, with specific reference to depleted uranium.
He is a founding member of GIMICRON (Interdisciplinary Group for Chronic Inflammatory Diseases) of which he was elected first National President in March 2011.
Founder of the medical publication, South Immunology Journal, he has collaborated on a number of publishing initiatives and, presently is editor-in-chief of the IMID Medical Journal, active in the field of immune-allergologic research.
He has published more than 90 scientific titles (18 indexed for MEDLINE) among monographs, reviews, editorials, communications and posters in congress proceedings, chapters of books, and articles published in scientific journals.
He has taken part as a speaker in a number of regional, national and international scientific conferences addressing different topics of specific immune-allergic and environmental interest.
He is actively committed to the definition and the promotion of a model of multidisciplinary service aimed at innovating, updating, as well as integrating clinical approach, health-care management and medical-assistance paths within the broad field of Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Disorders (IMIDs).
Honours
- In June 2007, the Commission of Honour, chaired by the Rector of the University of Salento awarded him the Barocco Prize “Terra del Sole Award 2007”, for his remarkable professional merits.
- In June 2010, he was awarded the Prize, “Umanizzazione – Buone Pratiche in Sanità” [Humanization – Good Practices in Healthcare”] for his professional merits, promoted by CittadinanzAttiva – Tribunale per I diritti dei Malati [ActiveCitizenship – Court for the Rights of the Sick] and institutionalized by the Local Health Authority, Lecce.
